Even though there is a 64bit Skype for downloading, Skype is somewhat not fully supported by 64bit Linux operating systems. 64bit Skype still relies on some 32bit libraries. This issue is addressed in Debian Wiki. I took the Multi-arch solution to install 32bit Skype on an AMD64 OS. It turns out that the instructions listed on the Debian wiki is incomplete in some sense. I followed everything listed and yet couldn’t enable audio playback on the 64bit Skype. What I needed to do is just to install the 32bit pulseaudio library, and then 32bit Skype works like a charm!
